On Friday, June 29, rapper Drake released his 90-minute, fifth studio album called “Scorpion,” the longest album of his career, packed with 25 songs.
Within 3 days, “Scorpion” hailed over 170 million streams on Apple music, and 132 million streams on Spotify, according to the New York Times.
The album, which includes features with Michael Jackson and Jay Z, also talks about his beef with Pusha T and his secret son.
Drake’s beef with Pusha T started in May, when Pusha T referred to Drake as a ghostwriter in his song, “The Story of Adidon,” and accused him of hiding and fathering his child. In his album, Drake responded in the track “Emotionless,” when he raps, “I wasn’t hiding my kid from the world/ I was hiding the world from my kid,” which is understandable, due to him being famous and knowing that exposing his private life to the world might bring negative attention to his child. Drake further confirmed that he was a father in his track, “March 14,” rapping, “She not my lover like Billie Jean, but the kid is mine,” referring to his baby’s mother, Sophie Brussaux, according to The Fader.
Drake never released an official diss track in response to Pusha T’s “The Story of Adidon,” giving some listeners the impression that he might be backing out of the rap battle. However, fans will not be disappointed as he makes few references to his beef with Pusha T throughout his tracks in “Scorpion.”
He concludes the album by mentioning plans of leaving his record deal. On the last song of the album “Is There More,” Drake raps, “Soon as the album drop, I’m out the deal,” insinuating that he’s a free agent and probably finished with Cash Money for good.
